Kathryn Colvig was born in Phoenix Arizona in 1959, and grew up in Des Moines, Iowa. She received her Masters of Fine Arts degree from the University of Iowa, and has painted professionally since 1982. Kathryn has achieved many awards for her paintings, including: Charitable Arts Tucsan Plein Aire Competition, Art for the Rockies Plein Aire Competition, State of Iowa Fine Art Exhibit, and Chicago's Windy City Art Show.
Her work is found in private and corporate collections all over the world, including France, Germany, Spain, Australia, Sweden, Switzerland, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Columbia, Brazil and the USA. In 2004 she moved to Costa Rica, and says the effect on her work has been profound. Her croton series, which is on exhibit at the Hidden Garden Art Gallery was inspired by her love of the Osa Peninsula. Currently residing in Nosara, she learned to surf and gained a new perspective of the water, waves, and ocean that she loves.
